Music and Me!
singing, movement, instruments, and more with Mrs. Amy DeBoer
About the Teacher
Amy DeBoer has been an elementary music teacher for 22 years, and currently teaches K-6 music for Jenison Public Schools. She received her Bachelors, and Master of Music Education, from Michigan State University. She has played the flute for over 30 years and performs as first chair for the Grand Rapids Symphonic Band and Beer City Winds. Amy enjoys spending time outside of music with her musical husband (drummer) and son (bassoonist and pianist), as well as her step son and daughter-in-law and her two new grandchildren.
Music and Me!
Is an early childhood class designed by Amy DeBoer. It is for infants, toddlers, preschoolers, and their caregiver. Both student and caregiver will learn songs, rhymes, movement activities, and play instruments. Classes are informal and allow children to learn at their own pace.
Music can help children develop fine and gross motor skills. Playing instruments or fingerplay songs can help develop hand muscles, while dancing to different types of music can help build arm, leg, and trunk muscles. Music can also help children connect brain and body movement, and linking familiar songs to new information can help imprint that information. Classes will include singing, movement, instruments, and more!
Caregiver stays with the child during the duration of the class and participates in the activities. Parents will be provided with a playlist of Music and Me songs to use at home as well as ways to engage with your child in musically meaningful ways.
