CAN WE TRY A FEW LESSONS TO SEE IF MY CHILD LIKES IT?

Piano is something that takes commitment from both the child and the parent.  We have found that the best avenue for success lies in committing to a year of lessons and then revisiting. However, we understand there are some extenuating circumstances and/or you know your child best; in these instances, we require a 1-month minimum commitment.

WE HAD A TRIAL LESSON, NOW WHAT?

You will be contacted for scheduling lessons. Equipment requirements will also be emailed as well as scheduling options. There is absolutely no expectation to move forward with lesson after a trial lesson. Books are typically $20-40 depending on level.

WE HAVE BOOKS FROM A PREVIOUS TEACHER, CAN WE USE THEM?

Bring these books with you for the trial lesson. In most situations we can use them until complete, then switch. Occasionally an additional book or two is recommended. Otherwise, we use specific books that are required.

CAN SIBLINGS SHARE PIANO BOOKS?

The answer to this question is Yes and No. Some of the piano books can be shared, others, such as theory, cannot. We make a concerted effort to share books whenever possible.

WHAT DOES A PARENT DO DURING LESSONS?

Most parents, especially with younger children, like to stick around for the first few lessons -- this is perfectly okay! Over time I find most children prefer not to have mom or dad ‘watching over their shoulder’, however, we understand and respect every parent has a different comfort level -- so please feel free to stick around for lesson if desired. Many parents use the lesson time to run a quick errand or take a nap in the car, which is perfectly fine as well.

CAN I BRING MY OTHER CHILDREN TO THE LESSON?

We understand these dilemmas. Parents and siblings are always welcome to come in and play with activities/toys provided. Of course, if your little one fall asleep in the car, don't wake them to come in! We will send out the student when finished.

IS THERE A RECITAL FOR PIANO STUDENTS?

Yes! Please see Schedule page for dates.

IS THERE A RECITAL FOR BAND STUDENTS?

No, you have enough performance opportunities through your band program at school. Of course, we never mind helping a student prepare for an extra performance.

DO PIANO STUDENTS PARTICIPATE IN STUDENT ACHIEVEMENT TESTING?

Piano testing opportunities will be made available to students who show aptitude or interest. To learn more about Student achievement testing (SAT), please visit www.ptfgr.org/sat.html.

SUMMER LESSONS

It is recommended piano students continue lesson through the summer months, especially since it is not a school reinforced activity. However, if a student must take the summer off it is highly recommended to get back on a normal lesson schedule when school starts back up. Band students are always encouraged to take lessons through the summer if they would like a jump start on the next year, have summer performances, or planning on pursuing higher level musical experiences. If you would like to hold a spot for fall, there is a non-refundable fee to do so, applied to tuition when lessons resume.
